The Story of Newdea: How It All Began
A Café, a Conversation and a Common Need
In 1999, Troy Stremler (founder and CEO of Newdea) sat at café in Puna, India with five American couples. They'd spent the morning at a clinic in one of the worst slums in Puna where an aboriginal group was providing medical treatment to children and families -- all on a meager $73,000 budget.
While talking with the couples, who were major donors to Mission Builders (the international outreach ministry where Troy formerly served as CEO), a common thread unraveled in the conversation: the donors all wanted to support more projects like the one that moved them earlier that morning, but they didn't know if their dollars would actually make a difference.
The Challenge: Use Information to Achieve Impact
The couples challenged Troy to ponder the question: how can nonprofits restore donors' joy and confidence in giving, all while generating the greatest impact for those who need it most?
So after four years of research and the industry's voiced need for a standard, Troy started a software company that would enable nonprofits to report project-level information to donors. And just like that, "Newdea" was born.
